Terms of Service

Please read these terms before using our website or maps.

1. The project and these terms

Outdoormap Greenland is a volunteer project operated by Team Outdoormap, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. “We”, “us” and “our” refer to the project team. Contact team@outdoormap.gl. These terms describe the conditions for using outdoormap.gl and the maps, downloads, instructions and other material we provide.

Please use the service only if you agree to these terms. Separate licences govern rights to use and redistribute map files, software and source data, as explained below. Our Privacy Policy explains personal-data processing; using the service does not by itself give consent to optional tracking or marketing.

2. All volunteer work; no service guarantees

All work on the Outdoormap project is undertaken voluntarily. We provide our website and map downloads free of charge, in the time and with the resources available to us. We do not undertake to provide professional surveying, guiding, navigation advice, rescue services or technical support.

We make no guarantee of availability, uninterrupted access, download speed, continued hosting, updates, corrections, compatibility, support or response times. We may change, suspend or discontinue all or part of the service. A suggestion, error report or request does not create an obligation to implement it. These statements do not override obligations imposed by law.

3. Outdoor safety and your responsibilities

Maps and instructions can contain errors, omissions and outdated information. Terrain, trails, water crossings, glaciers, sea ice, weather, access restrictions and facilities can change. A feature shown on a map does not establish that a route is safe, passable, legally accessible or suitable for your ability, equipment or intended activity.

  • Use independent, current sources and local advice when planning and travelling.
  • Assess conditions, legal access, permits, your skills and equipment for yourself.
  • Check downloads and your app before departure, including whether they work offline.
  • Carry appropriate backup navigation, power and emergency communication equipment.
  • Do not rely on these maps as your sole navigation source or as an emergency service.

You are responsible for decisions about your route and activities. We do not monitor your position or respond to distress calls. Website, email and community messages are not emergency channels.

4. No warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the service and all materials are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes warranties of accuracy, completeness, currency, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability and non-infringement. We do not warrant that maps or downloads are error-free, that a route is safe, that the service will be uninterrupted or secure, or that a particular device or app will work with our files. No informal advice or reply creates a warranty.

5. Liability and rights that remain protected

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the project and its volunteers exclude liability for loss or damage arising from use of, or inability to use, the service or materials. This includes losses resulting from map errors, navigation decisions, unavailable downloads, device or software incompatibility, loss of data, interruption of activities or lost profits.

6. Licences, attribution and third-party rights

The Outdoormap.gl Map License v1.0 and source-data notices describe permissions and restrictions for our map files. Consult those notices and any licence supplied with a download before copying, modifying or redistributing it. Keep required copyright notices, attribution and licence information with copies you distribute.

Source datasets, icons, software and other third-party material remain subject to their own licences. These terms do not override those licences, restrict rights they grant, or give us ownership of third-party material. Rights granted under a source-data licence such as Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 remain available under that licence. Nothing here limits uses or exceptions permitted by law. Use of a project name or logo must not falsely suggest our endorsement.

7. Responsible use

Do not use the service unlawfully, infringe other people's rights, send spam or malicious content, attempt unauthorised access, or deliberately disrupt the site or overload download infrastructure. We may take proportionate measures to protect the service from abuse, including limiting requests or blocking abusive access. This does not revoke rights already granted under an applicable map or open-source licence.

8. Community and other services

The Outdoormap community on Flarum Cloud is a separate service with its own privacy policy, community rules and applicable terms. Read those documents before registering or posting. These website terms do not replace them.

Cartograph, app stores, external websites and other third-party services have their own terms, privacy policies, licences and, where applicable, prices. Purchases from them are governed by your arrangement with that provider. A link or installation guide does not guarantee their service, availability, safety or compatibility, and we do not provide their support.

9. Changes

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the service or applicable law. We will publish the revised text and date here and give any additional notice or obtain agreement required by law. Changes apply prospectively; they do not retroactively remove rights or alter licences already granted for downloaded material.

10. Applicable law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands, subject to mandatory protections that apply in your country of habitual residence. They do not remove your right to bring a claim before a court available to you under applicable law. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent legally possible.

For questions, complaints or map errors, contact team@outdoormap.gl. Please include enough detail to identify the issue. Volunteer support carries no promised response time; statutory deadlines still apply where required.
